Act I. The Introduction. Language, in its infinite movement – will forever be blindingly unpredictable. With that, we want to harness every single character. The frenzy and fritter of emotions and vulnerability, the unforgiving anger and unrelentless beat. Line Break was formed out of a desire to give voice to young writers in the Philippines; the pretentious, young, old, skilled, dull. With words we weave worlds. It is time again to revel in the raw, broken tangles of the youth.
Act II. The Word. With Line Break, we move from themes every few months — submissions are directly or loosely based off the word that we give (which we always pick with much room for interpretation). The word for this Line Break cycle is as follows:
Desaparecidos: Beyond a disappearance.
It is impermanence— a reminder of how objects, people, sentiments, and ideas can all be so fleeting.
It is nostalgia— painfully woven through collective memories, or perhaps suppressed from it.
The disappeared leave more than just empty beds and silent photographs, in their wake are the dusts of unanswered questions, unfulfilled dreams, and an incompleteness yearning to be explored through the artist’s brush, and the writer’s pen.
We’re now open to contributions, whether art, poetry, or prose.
